What is Liquid Biopsy?
Liquid biopsies are a type of test that can be used to monitor the response of your cancer to treatments including surgery, chemotherapy, immune therapy and targeted therapy.
In some cases, using a liquid biopsy can avoid the need for additional biopsies or radiology examinations.
How is Liquid Biopsy Testing Done?
Cancer enters the blood stream in complete cells or fragments of cancer DNA. These components of cancer can be isolated from a blood sample, and evaluated and measured.
What is Liquid Biopsy Used For?
Liquid biopsy testing can be used in conjunction with a tissue analysis of your tumor, to help your doctor monitor your progress as you undergo treatment.
For patients with no cancer tissue available, liquid biopsy can help their doctor select the most effective treatment.
Liquid Biopsy can help your doctor determine if your cancer has a risk of spreading or metastasizing.
Findings can be helpful to determine if a surgical treatment was successful in removing all of the cancer.
Liquid biopsy can help identify changes in a patient’s cancer over time, leading to new recommended therapies.
Use of Liquid Biopsy for Recurrent Cancer Diagnosis
Another use of liquid biopsy is rapid diagnosis and confirmation of recurrent or metastatic cancer without the need for a potentially difficult and costly tissue biopsy. If your doctor suspects that you have a recurrence or relapse of your cancer after a remission, they might decide to use liquid biopsy to confirm that the cancer has recurred. In addition, the pattern of mutations in the blood can determine if the recurrent cancer is linked to the original tumor, or if a new cancer has developed.
In some cases, the specific types of mutations can be used to select targeted treatment that will have a better chance of effect, or it could be used to help qualify you for entrance onto a clinical trial.
Liquid Trace™
Detects Mutations in Plasma
Liquid Trace™ is a blood test that evaluates over 1,500 genes across multiple cancer types to monitor patients for residual and recurrent cancer. The information from Liquid Trace™ can also be used to improve treatment selection and eligibility for certain clinical trials.
CellSearch®
Circulating Tumor Cells
CellSearch® is a blood test that isolates and counts cancer cells. It can identify phenotype (including HER2 & PDL1), and is ideal for patients with breast, colorectal, prostate, melanoma or multiple myeloma. The test can guide therapy selection (HER2 positive) and monitor patient response to treatments.
